To acquire the necessary scans on a KaVo LS 3 scanner:
In the treatment line for the selected patient, click Start on the Scan your model card.
Note
For a scan request or an imported case, click Start scan in the Add case wizard.
The setup page of the LS 3 scan module is opened.
Notes
If no KaVo LS 3 scanner is connected and registered to the account, the import wizard is shown.
For a case request for which scans were attached via DTX Studio™ Go, the define models page is shown. If the attached scans were created in DTX Studio™ Clinic, the scan items will be predefined.
Carefully place the items to be scanned in the scanner. See scan instructions.
Caution Please ensure objects in the scanner do not change position during the scan procedure. Deviation will lead to misalignment of scan data. |
The scan tasks can be started from the KaVo LS 3 scanner touch panel or from within the DTX Studio™ Lab scan module (see below).
On the Scan tasks panel, the scan items are grouped per object type. To edit the scan setup, click Edit setup. There you can select the model height for all the scan objects. Click the scan object type to scan next to expand this part of the tasks panel. If there is more than one object of that type, all the objects are selected by default. Deselect the items you do not want to scan now.
Notes
For a die scan, select whether to scan the dies in a holder (Scan in holder) or in the model (Scan in model).
When scanning the occlusion in the articulator, a message is shown before the platform goes up or down.
Click Scan to scan the selected scan items.

Expanding another group in the tasks panel while scanning is not possible.
An icon on the scan task item indicates the progress of the scanning:
This item has not yet been scanned. | |
The scanning or the creation of the 3D model is being performed. | |
Some of the items of this group haven been scanned, but not all. | |
All the items of this group have been scanned completely. |
To pause the scanning, click Abort . To resume the scanning, click Cancel.
To discard the scanning, click Abort and then click OK.
When the scanning is complete (and the Abort button is no longer shown), the creation of the 3D model begins, and a new scan action can be initiated.
When the scan task is finished, the scan item is marked by a check mark. The 3D viewer allows you to check the quality of the scanned models.
To rescan an item that was already scanned, select the scan item that has already been scanned and click Scan.
To fill holes, click Rescan zone.
To determine the tooth positions that will be passed to the design module, click Indicate tooth positions in the tools menu.
If you scanned a jaw with locators, click Indicate locators to determine the locator positions. In the scan model the locators will be replaced by implant replicas.
To check the alignment of scan data with the dental model, click Check alignment .
To remove scan data, click Trim surface .
To import scan data, click Import .
When all the scans have been performed, click Save & Close to close the scan module.
On the touch panel, the scan tasks are grouped per object type. The order in which the objects will be scanned, can be chosen. Tap the scan object type to scan next.
Note
Error messages while scanning are displayed in the software and on the touch panel. The touch panel is always synchronized with the scan module and vice versa.

To set the model height, tap the height indication. The default scan height is 50 mm. Select the scan height and tap Confirm.
Turn on or off the sound by tapping or .
Place the scan object as shown on the instruction page. Tap Scan.
Note
You cannot start a new scan while another item is being scanned.

Just above the scanning plate in the LS 3 scanner there is a LED light. The color of the light displayed will alert you to the following.
Green light | The scanning of a model is finished | |
Yellow light | An error or a warning is displayed | |
Blue light | The platform moves up or down. |
In addition to this, a sound is played if an item has been scanned or if an error or warning is displayed on the touch panel. On the touch panel, tap or to turn the sound on or off.
When an item has been scanned (creation of the 3D model may still be ongoing), tap the next item to scan and tap Scan.
When all the scan tasks have been performed, check the scanned models in DTX Studio™ Lab.
